So there were a lot of firsts these past few weeks. Ted’s first trip to the UK, which included his first Whitby Gothic Weekend, first ‘real’ fish and chips,’ first ‘real’ Guiness, Wagamama’s 55 Bar Cocktails...meeting all my friends, the list goes on and on...and you know what?

It was probably some of the best 12 days I have spent in my life (minus the anxiety of he arriving and the misery of him leaving)

Brigid and I arrived at Heathrow with me being more than a bit nervous and bouncy so of course we went for a quick drink (well, I had a drink, Brigid was driving)...we wandered our way down to this gate and the timing was perfect. I ran off from Brigid mid-sentence as he was just coming out. I think we either made a lot of people want to vomit (which was something I think we did a lot while he was here) or smile (maybe did that too) as it was one of the gushiest greetings ever. Brigid took a couple of pictures and then we were off to mine.

I babbled away pointing out things, being all excited...Brigid dropped us off and I showed him around the house, introduced the kitties...and then well...we went to sleep. Really! We did!!!

Up early on Thursday for us to do the final touches on packing for Whitby, getting brekki and believe it or not, an actual sighting of Jack! Who we are guessing was fine with Ted (and I mean eventually the kind of fine that I went to bed early once we were back from Whitby and Ted sat on the couch snuggling Jack!) as he hears his voice every night practically over Skype.

Anyway...made it to the station in good time and found our seats. As the train was getting closer to Darlington, we were told that (as I suspected for we had moved a bit slowly and had altogether stopped at one point) the train was late getting into Darlington and that we would have to run for it as they were holding the train for all the people going to Whitby.

I tried to run...and promptly took one step and face planted. Ignoring the horrible pain in my knee and my hand, I told Ted to just keep moving and we would worry about me later. We looked once we got on the train...we inspected the damage. A huge scrape on my knee, two on my fingers and already the feeling of the throbbing bruise on my knee. Oh genius...I just break myself every Spring Whitby, last year it was my elbow and a sling, this one my knee (and eventually a walking stick, but more on that later).

Stopped in the Angel for a quick drink after finding out that the Nisa was closed. Eventually met up with Adam and Daisy for key business...oh and then it just goes into the normal stuff. The Angel, drinking, having fun. Pizza at the Angel (they let us. BTW – the Angel is MUCH nicer now that they have changed owners. The staff are nicer and the beer tastes better...and as Ted and I found out when we met Shaggy there for a drink, they have little adorable doggies who live in the back and the two of them sat with me and Ted for a while...oh were they soooooo cute. And plus, my friend Emma works there which is even better!)

We had a pretty early night as well, we hadn’t seen each other since February and my knee was really starting to bother me.

On Friday, I got Ted up at the ridiculous hour of 8:30 to go walking on the beach. It was, of course, the only day that the weather was in any way iffy but the fog was lovely. We went to Java for brekki and then went for the wander about. Now, bear in mind I was planning to eat at Java and then walk on the beach. I was in Ted’s t-shirt and my hang out and do nothing trousers. No make-up and my hair was a mess.

After wandering on the beach, we were passing the Spa and I noticed it was open and happily, no wonder, empty. So we went in. Bought some CDs for Ted, met with Magenta Moon (who gave me a hug that took me off the floor and a big one for Ted too). There was much wandering and organising of meeting up with people, getting kitty fairy outfits, seeing lots of people, oh, and just a wee bit of drinking.

I bet it seemed to Ted that I knew everyone in the town as I couldn’t go more than 20 feet without banging into someone I know. I am not try to brag, but it was such a great feeling to have so many lovely friends. Who continued all weekend to be so welcoming and lovely with Ted...*sigh* I am such a lucky girl.

Eventually, it was back to the flat to Kitty Faerie and head over to 55 Bar for cocktails with the normal gang and then head over to Shambles for the Faerie meet up. A whirlwind of drinking, Pablo kissing all the men, faerie silliness...it was a great, fun night...but two things were happening: 1) my knee had swollen up to a horrible mess of purple bruising with a pretty big scab and; 2) I was starting to get ME-like tired...so although it wasn’t late and there was probably lots of partying still to be done, I went home sensibly.

Saturday, I finally gave in and got a walking stick. I knew exactly where I wanted to look and they didn’t disappoint. There was a stop at the Angel for drinks with Shaggy, where the lovely Victoria and Chris Tuke showed up for a quick stop and then agreeing to meet up in the Shambles later..where we were off to have lunch with LGB and his lovely Amanda. However, the Shambles didn’t have a table free (boo), but that was fine, we chatted and had some drinks...when out of the corner of my eye I saw Katy Cotton who was not supposed to be there that weekend. I screamed for her and she, her gorgeous and kind Louis who had surprised her with the trip, and Victoria joined us. Much silliness was had...Ted was the absolute star that is one of the reasons that I love him and went all the way over to the Res to pick up Claire’s Bring and Buy stuff as they were closing at 4 leaving me for fun with the gang. He came back just in time for us to go walking through town and to do some shopping and then hitting the arcade, (by this time Chris had joined us). There was some dance game silliness (I have posted the videos) and then we confirmed meeting up at the Spa later...

So after changing into my gothabilly faerie, we headed off to the Spa...banged into a lot of old friends, saw The Damned and then...yes...we headed off home...another relatively early evening as to be honest...I was a tired bunny...although Ted must have thought I was on some kind of drug the way I was dragging him from one place to another, promising ‘just one drink’ when we would ‘just stop in somewhere for a minute.’ I admit I probably over did (there Ted, I said it!!), but it was his first Whitby and I wanted him to experience as much of it as possible.

Sunday was brought to us with relatively good, if not particularly, sunny weather so it was time for Football!!!!!! Okay, the guys didn’t win, but us girls – we did during the penalty shoot out. Okay I didn’t score, but we raised a lot of money for charity...and na na ana nnanana nan...THE GIRLS WON!

One thing I will have to say is that all credibility I had is gone..gone...thanks to my friends who I thought...thought....would take the piss out of Ted, but oh...no...no...I think I turned about 25 shades of red thanks to some of the comments (thanks Jim and no you are still not allowed to play with Ted unless you are supervised)...But at the same time, that amazing feeling of having such amazing friends and such an amazing boyfriend...*sigh*

It was then dinner with Jim and Gina...which was soooo lovely...and then off the Met to help Magenta with the 80’s night. I actually did send Ted home to rest as his tummy was upset and he was exhausted. Taking care of me all weekend was really taking its toll.

(btw – I won’t comment on all the politics that went on with the 80’s night...I think enough has been said whether accurately, correctly, professionally, etc....)

He eventually came back, I had a good, although slightly wobbly boogie (due to injury, not drink)...and then we heading back to the house so I could change into the outfit that was loaned to me by Claire...changed, we were off to Nostalgia where I finally got to talk to William Faith and Scary Lady Sarah...and Dave and lots more people. The music was much more to Ted’s liking I think...but yep...we did stay out pretty late, but again...we wanted to get home...Which we did.

Monday had Adam and Daisy leaving us (they were incredible flat mates!!) We had a bit of a lie in, then went about town, had some drinks, Ted cooked me dinner...and then got ready for the last night. The plan was the Met, the Beach Party and then Recollection. One out of two is not bad....By about 9:30 at the Met, was falling asleep and although spending time with Magenta, Jem, Chris, etc was amazing...I didn’t want Ted to have to carry me on his back home. Jem was kind enough to give us a ride home. I knew I wasn’t dressed warm enough for the beach (unless you put me in the fire) and Recollection was just too much...so we went back to the flat. Ted went out to search for food, and I nested...blanket on the couch, comfy clothes, the telly on and a lovely drink in my hand. Ted did laugh when he got back in...All I needed was a cat (and him of course!)

The trip back on Tuesday was rather uneventful...and we got back into the house and collapsed. Ted went out and got Indian food for himself (I hate it and was too tired to actually eat)...

So that was Ted’s and my Whitby Gothic Weekend, March 2011.

What we did after will be the next post!
